Barbara Cartland
Barbara Cartland, famosa autrice di romanzi rosa e storici, drammaturga, oratrice politica nonchè personalità della televisone britannica, ha scritto durante la sua carriera più di 700 libri. Nata nel 1901 e morta nel maggio 2000, è entrata nel Guiness dei Primati per il numero di libri scritti (fino a 23 all'anno!) e venduti, ed è anche stata apprezzata scrittrice di biografie, tra le quali quella del suo amato fratello, il Maggiore Ronald Cartland, primo membro del Parlamento britannico ad essere rimasto ucciso durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale. Nel 1991 Barbara Cartland è stata investita dalla Regina Elisabetta come Dama dell'Ordine dell'Impero Britannico per il suo contributo alla letteratura ed il lavoro svolto a favore di innumerevoli cause umanitarie e di carità. Il suo primo romanzo d'amore, intolato "Jigsaw" e pubblicato nel 1923, è di ambientazione moderna ed è narrato in prima persona; il primo romanzo storico è del 1949, s'intitola "Azzard of the Hearts", ed è anche il primo ad essere narrato in terza persona. In Italia sono stati pubblicati poco più di un centinaio di suoi romanzi d'amore storici (se si esclude "The Black Panther" che, comunque, è ambientato nel 1939) da cinque case editrici differenti: l'ultima in ordine di tempo è stata la Harlequin Mondadori che, prendendo tutti di sorpresa, nel 2008 ha rincominciato a pubblicare i suoi romanzi facendo uscire ben 8 titoli inediti in Italia.
